The most common causes are: the probe is inserted too shallowly, soil not adhering to the probe, rocks, soil that is too dry or compact, water directly on the sensor body, or a reading taken immediately after insertion. Insert the probe at least 2/3 of the way in and wait 1–2 minutes.
